Big City Plans from a Small Town Man

Meet The Philly Temps & Perm Employee of the Month for November 2022!

Brian S. made his way to the bright lights of the big city through a suburban upbringing. Along the way, he learned how to shine just as bright, and that is one of the reasons we are excited to name him as the Philly Temps & Perm Employee of the Month for November 2022!

An open mind is the key to success when you’re starting out, and Brian’s willingness to accept what come his way is impressive. His ability to see each assignment as an opportunity for growth is enviable.

Brian has a knack for looking at the whole picture, then focusing on the details that are the most important to execute a plan. Add in the fact that he seems to be able to get along with anyone, under any circumstances, make working with him even more pleasant!

Thank you, Brian, for all of your hard work!

Philly Temps (PT): How long have you lived in the Philadelphia, PA area?

Brian S. (BS): I’ve been in Philly for approximately 6 years now. Being from the suburbs originally, it’s the first big city I’ve ever lived in, and I love it!

PT: What was your work experience prior to working with Philly Temps?

BS: Previously, I mainly worked in restaurants and coffee shops. I still make a mean cup of coffee.

PT: How did you hear about Philly Temps?

BS: I stumbled upon Philly Temps through the internet, submitted my resume, and then before I knew it, they had me working some great positions.

PT: Please share your most memorable experience working for Philly Temps.

BS:  Probably the veterinarian convention as it was my first big convention job. I also had the opportunity to check out some of the exhibits, where I picked up some sweet socks with cats on them that have become a staple of my attire.

PT: Do you have a favorite local place to shop / visit?

BS: Bookhaven in Fairmount is by far my favorite used bookstore in the city. They have every genre you can think of, and there’s usually a very friendly cat roaming around. I’ve spent quite a bit there over the years, but it’s hard not to when the selection is so excellent!

PT: What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

BS: I love taking classes and learning how to make things – jewelry, knitting, prints, etc. Most recently, I learned how to make a zellige (colorful, geometric, Moroccan tiles) mosaic.

PT: What are your long-term career goals?

BS: I hope to one day go to graduate school for comparative literature. My big dream is to teach in the humanities at the college level. Going to university changed my life and the way I view the world. I’d like to provide others with that same experience.

PT: What advice can you give to prospective candidates that want to work with Philly Temps?

BS: Just be punctual and enthusiastic and remember that the whole Philly Temps staff is there to help you succeed!
